Thank you

FSHS Reading Goals:
Our SMART goal is to take 10 percent (10%) of the students who currently score below the proficiency level and move those students to the proficient level or above, as measured annually on the Kansas State Reading Assessment and reported in the AYP Report.

Included in this goal, the Reading Professional Learning Community (Reading PLC) determined staff will learn six specific strategies to enhance comprehension of content area reading: making connections, questioning, visualizing, drawing inferences, determining importance, and synthesizing. Also, staff will design content instruction that utilizes effective reading strategies and students will apply appropriate comprehension strategies to text material to increase their reading comprehension.

Feel free to spend some time looking around at the information contained in this site. Then, when you are ready, consider the following steps:

  1. What are the important concepts you want students to know?
  2. Think about what process would most effectively help student to understand the concepts.
  3. Next, what strategies would assist you in helping the students understand the concepts.
  4. Practice the strategies with your students.
  5. Allow the students mutiple times to practice the strategies.
  6. Finally, evaluate the effectiveness of the strategy. Ask yourself what worked and what could be changed next time to make it more effective.
